Musa acuminata also known by the cultivar name East African Highland banana, is a starchy triploid banana cultivar originating from the African Great Lakes.The banana fruit is one of the most consumed plant in Rwanda and this is not just because it is rich in starch and calories but because it is eaten and often used to make local brewery referred to as ikigage. this drink is very popular in the suburbs and outskirts of Rwanda for it’s organic taste. It is one of the most consumed crop at 250-400kgs consumed per person annually and for good reason.
